10 STRANGE MAJORS

10 Strange Majors in University

1. WINE MAKING

In college, boozing isn't just for the weekends. Prestigious schools like Cornell and UC Davis offer a winemaking major-- only, they call it viticulture or enology. It sounds smarter that way, don't you think?

2. BOILER MAKING

Don't be deceived, this has nothing to do with Purdue or its mascot. Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest in Evansville, Indiana offers boilermaking. In this program, students learn how to make and repair steam parts.

3. SPORT MINISTRY

Bellhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi offers a sports ministry major. They describe it as "preparing individuals to use sport as a ministry tool." Basically, you get to play baseball with your pastor. Pretty cool.

4. Bakery Science

Among many other universities, Kansas State offers a bakery science major. In this program, students learn how to operate a bakery without having to focus on other areas of the culinary arts. This actually sounds pretty fun -- where do I sign up?

5. Professional Nanny

If you've considered making a career out of childcare, check out Sullivan University's professional nanny curriculum. The Kentucky-based school offers classes that train people for careers in day care centers, pediatric wards of hospitals and other childcare settings.

6. Retail Floristry

In the retail floristry program, students are trained in the art of floral design showcases, special event gardening, and the business behind the flowers. Since you don't necessarily need a degree to work in a flower shop, this program is for someone who would eventually like to run their own business.

7. Master Ranching
Texas A&M University in Kingsville offers a master's degree program in ranch management. Students in these classes might trudge around campus in worn out jeans and cowboy boots, but they'll enter the "real world" and make a salary of $50,000 to $75,000, on average. Not too shabby.

8 .Meat Cutting

A person majoring in meat cutting will learn to receive, cut and package animal products in commercial establishments and to function as a licensed butcher. Several community colleges around the country offer this program, including Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Oklahoma.

9. Canadian Studies

At many schools, an entire academic program is dedicated to Canada. SUNY Plattsburg offers this major, in which students learn everything they ever wanted to know about Canada and more.
